Two-factor authentication adds a vital security layer to online accounts by requiring two separate forms of proof before granting the user access - in this case, your password and a code from an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
Before you start
- Your welcome email from Dashbuilder (it contains a set-password link, never a password).
- An authenticator app on your phone, such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator or 1Password.
Your first sign-in
- Open the welcome email and click the set-password link.
- Choose a password. It must be at least 12 characters and include an upper-case letter, a lower-case letter, a number and a symbol. If it doesn't meet the rules, the page tells you which one is missing.
- You will be taken to a separate page to set up two-factor authentication. Open your authenticator app, scan the QR code on screen, then type the six-digit code it shows.
- Save your recovery codes somewhere safe, such as a password manager. You'll need one if you lose your phone.
- You land on Home.
Signing in after that
- Go to your organisation's Dashbuilder address and enter your email and password.
- Enter the six-digit code from your authenticator app.
If you type a wrong code, you'll see an error and can try again; one mistake won't lock you out.
Forgotten your password?
On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password, enter your email, and follow the link in the email you receive.
Changing your password or two-factor
Go to the user menu (bottom left) › Settings › Security. Recovery codes are shown inside the two-factor section.
If your organisation requires two-factor, there is no option to turn it off. You'll see a line explaining it's required by your organisation.
Common questions
I didn't get my welcome email. Check your spam folder, then ask your admin to use Resend invite on your account.
I've lost my phone. Use one of your recovery codes to sign in, then set up two-factor again on your new phone. If you have no recovery codes, contact your admin.
Can I delete my own account? No. Ask your admin to remove you.
